We are family run, seafront guest accommodation offering bed and breakfast, optional evening meals and a fully stocked bar open to both residents and the public, with a seasonal forecourt café.

We have been independently graded as 4 Star Guest Accommodation by VisitEngland and the AA with a Gold accolade. For our commitment to excellence we have also been awarded a Breakfast award from VisitEngland and a Breakfast and Dinner Award from the AA. In November 2018 we were awarded the Gold award in the category of Small Boutique Hotel or Guest Accommodation in the Herald Express South Devon Hospitality and Tourism Awards 2018 and were crowned South Devon's Bed & Breakfast, Guest House and Inn of the Year in October 2013.

The Downs Babbacombe was originally called The Downs Hotel and dates back to before the 2^nd world war. The 'Hotel' was dropped from the name in 2007 and we were reclassified as Guest Accommodation to bring us in line with AA and VisitBritain grading criteria. However we still retain the facilities we had prior to this, including our spacious residents restaurant and fully licensed Lounge Bar. Indeed we are still known locally and to our long standing returning guests as The Downs Hotel and retain as our website, trading name and address.

This lovely old house is a Victorian building, built c. 1850 and comprises 12 fully en-suite double bedrooms, 8 of which have private sea view balconies. Its stunning location gives them breath taking 180o uninterrupted sea views over Lyme Bay - from Shaldon all the way to Portland Bill. We have refurbished the building throughout creating an elegant feel whilst maintaining a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere with the emphasis on excellent service.

All rooms have flatscreen freeview TV's and include Egyption cotton linen, fluffy bath sheets, hand towels and flannels, with luxurious complimentary toiletries. All have hot drinks trays and free WiFi access is available throughout the building.

For the comfort of our guests we have a Lounge Bar and Residents Only Restaurant both of which are fully licensed, and for the young at heart we have our very own ice cream parlour, serving locally made real Devon Clotted Cream ice cream. During the summer months the forecourt café provides an excellent area to relax and enjoy a traditional home-made cream tea or refreshing beer.

We offer versatile accommodation with single, twin, double and family rooms and Junior & Master Suites which can accommodate up to a maximum of 8 people.

We welcome children of all ages and consider children to be aged under 17yrs. Infants (under 2's) are free and we have everything you should need to make your child comfortable. We have also been endorsed by an independent assessor Child Friendly Matters.

We are pet friendly, serving breakfast in our Lounge Bar which is dog friendly at all times, and due to the immediate proximity to the Downs, Walls Hill and Babbacombe Beach we are ideal for those wishing to bring four legged members of the family along.

There is local free 'on street' parking at either end of our road (Babbacombe Downs Road), alternatively the hotel backs onto a pay and display car park - Princes Street car park (please remember to clearly display your car parking ticket should you park here). Guests can either pay the parking meter on a daily basis or Virtual Parking Permits can be purchased in advance from Torbay Council. They must be purchased by the registered car owner.

We are biker friendly and can offer off street parking including CCTV coverage.
